Welcome to the Limelite Standard Poodle website. My name is Bev Duerst and I live in Deforest, Wisconsin with my husband, Dan, and our Standard Poodles. Thirty years ago I bought a black Miniature Poodle from a neighbor of my parents. Because I have allergies, I was limited on what breed of dog I could have. Two more backyard bred Miniature Poodles were owned and loved by me. None of them would meet the breed standard or win any prizes, but I adored them. With the passing of the last Miniature Poodle, I decided the next dog I owned would be well bred and trained to be a well behaved dog. I went to the Badger Kennel Club Dog Fair and connected with owners of Standard Poodles and club members who provided me with advice on how to find a reputable breeder, what books to read, classes to take, etc.
In 1993 I purchased my first Standard Poodle, U-SH, U-CDX U-AGI Ravendune Abbey At Last, CDX, NA, WC, VCX and off we went to puppy socialization class. Abbey was such a delight to train that I never stopped taking classes, going to seminars and eventually, showing dogs in obedience, agility, hunt tests, and conformation.
In 1996 I purchased my second Standard Poodle, U-SH, U-CDX MACH2 Lemerle Crystal Lite, UD, JH, WC, VCX. Elaine Robinson Rude is Crystal's breeder, Lemerle Standard Poodles. The journey to all of Crystal’s titles with this once in a lifetime dog has been the highlight of my years in the dog world.
Ch. Magicstar Lavender and Lace, CD, MX, MXJ is my first breed champion. Lacy came to live with me in 2002. Her breeder is Roberta M. ("Pepsi") Gilson, Magicstar Standard Poodles. I grew and maintained Lacy's show coat and Pepsi handled Lacy in the conformation ring and earned Lacy’s championship. In April 2005 Lacy whelped a litter of 8 black puppies, one of which I kept. (See the Nursery page).
Magicstar Jitterbug, NAJ, Lacy’s daughter, is in training for obedience and agility competition. Bug is very fast and it will test me to keep up with her in agility.
In 2007 Lemerle In The Limelite came to me from Toronto, Canada. Shimmer's breeders are Elaine Robinson Rude (Lemerle Standard Poodles) and Linda Campbell (Dawin Standard Poodles). Shimmer is in training for obedience and agility and I hope to show her in conformation as an adult. Bug and Shimmer will keep me very busy over the next several years with training and showing them in performance events.
I am an active member of the Greater Milwaukee Poodle Club, Badger Kennel Club and Versatility In Poodles.
